Counseling and Support Services Director
Salary: $90,000 – $95,000 based on experience
The Counseling and Support Services Director provides leadership, oversight, and vision for all non-residential counseling and support programs serving survivors of domestic and sexual violence. This role ensures high-quality, trauma-informed, and survivor-centered services while supporting staff, strengthening programs, and aligning services with the agency’s mission and strategic goals. The Counseling and Support Services Director supervises counseling and advocacy staff, supports program development and evaluation, manages program-related grants and budgets, maintains community partnerships, and serves as a member of the agency’s senior leadership team.
The Director also maintains a small clinical caseload to remain grounded in direct service and emerging client needs.
Principal Responsibilities:
Program Leadership and Oversight
- Provides overall leadership and direction for non-residential counseling and support programs
- Ensures services are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and aligned with best practices and funder requirements
- Develops, implements, and evaluates program policies, procedures, and service delivery models
- Monitors program outcomes and uses data to guide continuous improvement
Staff Supervision and Development
- Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates counseling and advocacy staff
- Provides regular clinical and administrative supervision
- Supports staff professional growth, training, and wellness
- Promotes a collaborative, supportive, and accountable team culture
Direct Service
- Maintains a clinical caseload of up to 10 clients, as needed
- Provides individual counseling, crisis intervention, and advocacy
- Ensures appropriate referrals and coordination of care
Program Development and Community Engagement
- Identifies emerging community needs and opportunities for program growth
- Represents the agency through public speaking, training, and community presentations
- Builds and maintains partnerships with community providers, coalitions, and systems partners
- Collaborates on prevention, education, and outreach initiatives
Administration, Grants, and Budget Management
- Participates in agency-wide strategic planning and leadership decision-making
- Assists with grant development, reporting, and compliance related to counseling programs
- Monitors program budgets and expenditures in collaboration with agency leadership
Education and Experience:
- Master’s level Licensed Professional Counselor or Licensed Clinical Social Worker
- Minimum 5 years of experience providing direct service, preferably in domestic violence or trauma programs
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory or leadership experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of domestic violence dynamics, trauma-informed care, and survivor empowerment
- Experience with program planning, evaluation, and grant management
Strong knowledge of community resources and service systems
Core Competencies:
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage teams, implement change, and develop organizational capacity
- Program management experience, including policy development and quality improvement
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across departments
- Understands DCF requirements, coalition standards, and domestic/sexual violence regulations
- Excellent communication skills for diverse stakeholder engagement
Safe House Advocate
Work Environment: On-Site, 35 hours per week.
Hours: 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm
Salary: $50,000 – $53,000 based on experience

Job Summary:
The Safe House Advocate provides direct, compassionate, and flexible support to individuals and families impacted by domestic and sexual violence. This role works with survivors of all ages and backgrounds, offering advocacy, case management, crisis response, and 24-hour hotline coverage. The Safe House Advocate is a key part of the Emergency Services team and helps ensure the safe house remains a supportive, responsive, and well-functioning environment. This position requires adaptability, teamwork, and a strong commitment to meeting survivors where they are and responding to evolving needs in real time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide individual advocacy and support services to clients using an empowerment-based approach that supports informed decision-making
- Answer and respond to domestic and sexual violence hotlines, working collaboratively with Younity’s Response Team volunteers to provide crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning, information, and referrals
- Offer individual case management and crisis intervention to clients in person and over the phone
- Advocate for clients within court systems, public assistance programs, and other community-based resources
- Coordinate referrals and maintain strong working relationships with community partners and service providers
- Support the day-to-day operation of the safe house, including assisting with facility needs, maintaining a welcoming environment, and helping ensure client safety and comfort
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete client documentation and agency forms
- Provide transportation for clients as needed to access services and resources
- Participate in Emergency Services team meetings, required trainings, and other agency activities
- Respond flexibly to survivor needs, including adjusting priorities, covering shifts when needed, and assisting teammates to ensure continuity of care
- Perform additional related duties as assigned to support program and client needs
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to communicate calmly, respectfully, and professionally in both phone and in person interactions
- Strong time management skills with the ability to meet documentation and reporting deadlines
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Flexibility and willingness to step in where needed to support survivors, the safe house, and the broader team
- Strong commitment to supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence, advancing equity, and contributing to systems change
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; bilingual abilities are preferred
- Complete the agency’s 60 hour domestic violence and sexual violence training within the first year of employment, or provide proof of completion from another certified agency
- Valid driver’s license and ability to transport clients
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, or a related field is required. Previous experience in case management, crisis intervention, advocacy, or residential experience is strongly preferred.
Physical & Sensory Requirements:
- Ability to work in a confidential shelter environment with potential safety risks; comfortable responding to domestic violence-related crises
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, residents, families, service providers, and others
- Ability to remain calm and decisive under pressure
- Ability to evaluate/interpret information and make independent judgments/decisions
- Occasional evening and weekend availability for emergency safety situations
- Valid NJ driver’s license and reliable transportation for court appearances and community meetings
