Children’s Services

At Younity, we recognize the profound effects domestic violence and sexual assault has on children, whether they witness it or experience it firsthand. Our Children’s Services provide a safe, nurturing space where children can heal and grow in a supportive environment.

How Children Are Affected

Children exposed to violence may witness or overhear abusive incidents, sense tension, or experience inconsistent caregiving. Often times, it’s not a single incident, but a cycle of abuse. These experiences can deeply affect their emotional and psychological well-being. Our therapeutic approaches—including play therapy, art therapy, and cognitive-behavioral techniques—help address these traumatic experiences and foster healing.

Comprehensive Child Advocacy

Beyond counseling, Younity offers a wide range of services through our Child Advocacy program. Our Child Advocates coordinate individualized services that include:

  • Individual and group counseling
  • Recreational and educational activities
  • Participation in program-led parent/child activities

In addition, Younity is the only domestic violence shelter in the region to offer optional homeschooling for children if safety and confidentiality require it, ensuring their education continues in a secure environment.

Healing Through Family Support

A child’s recovery is closely linked to the well-being of their caregiver. By working directly with parents or guardians, we help families navigate their unique challenges, providing professional guidance to create a healthier, more stable home environment.

Access to Our Programs

Children can be connected to our services in several ways, whether through a parent receiving counseling or while staying in one of our housing programs. Parents or guardians can discuss Children’s Counseling options or advocacy services with their counselor or advocate to start the referral process.

Our Commitment

We are dedicated to ensuring children understand that violence is never their fault. Through our comprehensive services, we strive to empower children to build resilience, strength, and hope for their future.
