Safe House
Safe House
At Younity, our Safe House offers a vital refuge for victims of abuse and their children, providing short-term emergency housing in a safe, welcoming environment. For many, the Safe House is the first step toward healing and rebuilding a life free from violence.
A Safe Haven
Our Safe House is a confidential location where victim-survivors and their children can begin to recover from the trauma of domestic abuse. Upon arrival, they are met with compassion and support to ensure their immediate needs are addressed. We offer more than just shelter; we provide a nurturing space where victim-survivors can start planning for a future without fear.
Comprehensive Support Services
While residing in the Safe House, each individual is paired with a Client Advocate who works closely with them to address emergent needs and set personal goals. The Client Advocate also assists with assessing housing needs—helping clients transition to safe and stable housing after their stay.
Children’s Services
Children residing in the Safe House receive specialized attention from a Children’s Advocate, ensuring their emotional and educational needs are met. We partner with local school districts to ensure children can attend school safely, away from the offending abuser. If it’s determined that a child cannot safely attend school, we arrange for homeschooling by a volunteer teacher, providing the first, and only, on-site homeschooling program in a New Jersey domestic violence shelter.
Counseling and Emotional Support
Although formal counseling sessions take place at the Counseling and Support Services (CSS) center or through arranged visits, residents at the Safe House have access to group support sessions on-site. These group sessions provide a space for reflection, healing, and growth in a compassionate, nonjudgmental environment.
We also offer a non-denominational Chaplaincy program, a unique feature of our Safe House, providing spiritual support to those who seek it.
Essentials and Case Management
Our Safe House goes beyond providing a roof over one’s head. We ensure that residents have access to food, clothing, transportation, childcare, and referrals to various social services. Comprehensive case management is a core component of our program, significantly improving the chances of long-term well-being and self-sufficiency for our residents.
