Womanspace is proud to announce our new initiative; The Young Adult Advisory Council (YAAC), a group of young leaders between the ages of 15-22 advocating for domestic violence awareness, sexual assault awareness and healthy relationships. Young women experience the highest rate of intimate partner violence and sexual assault, almost triple the national average. Among female victims of intimate partner violence, 94% of those are age 16-19 and 70% of those age 20-24 were victimized by a current or former partner.
These advocates are helping voice Womanspace’s mission of DV and SA awareness to a younger audience via Instagram, Tik Tok, and other social media platforms. For example, YAAC Instagram posts for Denim Day had the highest social engagement this year with 94 likes and 64 shares. See them below!
Womanspace is hoping to recruit new YAAC members this summer. Additionally, the group is hoping to plan a conference in 2022 as a way to create a safe environment for conversations around healthy relationships, dating violence, consent, and more. More information on this possible event will be determined in the upcoming months.
Interested in joining YAAC? Become a member by August 13th! For more information, email Danielle Scollins at des@womanspace.org.
