Every October, as darkness falls earlier and the air turns cool, thousands of luminary candles begin to glow along sidewalks, driveways, and storefronts across Mercer County. These flickering lights carry a quiet, powerful message: We see you. We believe you. We stand with you.
Communities of Light® is more than a campaign. It’s a grassroots movement to raise awareness and funds for those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault—and to show victim-survivors that they are not alone. Over the course of 24 years, this campaign has grown from a few neighborhoods into a county-wide tradition rooted in community, compassion, and the belief that even small actions can spark meaningful change.
This year, we’re lighting up the night on Monday, October 27—closing out Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a display of hope and solidarity. Whether you join as a sponsor, sell luminary kits, or help organize your neighborhood, your participation helps light the way forward.
What’s in a Luminary Kit?
Each Communities of Light® luminary kit includes:
- 6 white paper luminary bags
- 6 candles
- Easy-to-follow setup instructions
Lighting these luminaries on the evening of October 27 is a powerful way to show support for victim-survivors of domestic and sexual violence throughout Mercer County.

Each purchase is considered a donation to Younity.
Proceeds directly fund essential services — including shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, and community education — that help victim-survivors find safety, healing, and hope.

Bring Communities of Light® to your block, neighborhood, faith group, or civic organization. As a Lighting Coordinator, you help us spread the light by:
- Taking kit orders from neighbors or members
- Organizing local lightings
- Distributing luminary kits to participants
You don’t need prior experience—just a willingness to connect with others and help bring this campaign to life where you live. We’ll support you with instructions, flyers, and tips for engagement.
